becoming the wife of a widower….from struggle to joy

thank God for fathers

Posted by: Author on: June 12, 2008

I have some good news today! (I’ll get to the topics promised in my last post in the next few days.)

Yesterday Superman met with our pastor, as he does on a regular basis.  I’ve known my pastor for 8 years, and he is a father to me as he is to Superman.  One of the many things I love about him is that he isn’t afraid to tell you what he sees and correct where you are going wrong.

Superman informed me that our pastor rebuked him for putting me through psychological trauma and taking out the things he wasn’t happy about in life on me.  Our pastor said that he needed to give his strength to the relationship and not just his leftovers.  He warned Superman that if he didn’t change, I’d walk out on him and he’d be kicking himself once he realized what he had done.  Our pastor also said that he had to stop accomodating his family and his late wife’s family at the expense of his own life and the life he’s building with me (in a nutshell).

So he called me and apologized!  I am so happy!  I know that Superman greatly values what he has to say and responds when our pastor corrects him.  He does not take his words lightly at all.

So today in anticipation of Father’s Day, I thank God for my father!  He’s looking out for me and my best interests, and I greatly appreciate all that he’s done to make my life better.

I encourage you to leave a comment so others can benefit from your insight and questions. Many forums for wives and girlfriends of widowers/former widowers are not public. I am hoping that by being more public about what happens in our lives, others may be encouraged and some may become more understanding of what we experience. If you are concerned about your identity being discovered by people in your life, please use a screen name. (That's why I haven't disclosed by real name!) Thanks for listening and sharing. ~Author~
